Meet the Team


Dr Claire Cable. 

BVSc, GPcert SAP.

Born and bred in New Zealand Claire graduated from Massey University in 1998 and spent the next year and a half working in a mixed animal practice in Southland. That was followed by six and a half years in the UK working in small animal practices, before returning to New Zealand in 2006 and taking over the running of Vetcall Animal Hospital alongside husband Colin. With a special interest in Internal Medicine Claire has completed a postgraduate General Practitioners Certificate in Small Animal Practice (GPcertSAP), while outside the Animal Hospital she relishes family time with children Luca and Erika, keeping active outdoors, and whipping up culinary treats in the kitchen!


Dr Colin Cable. 

BVSc, GPcert SAP.

After graduating from the University of Pretoria in 2000 Colin, like Claire, headed for the UK, where he too worked in Small Animal practices. Colin is highly skilled in the areas of surgery and diagnostic imaging, and has also completed a postgraduate General Practitioners Certificate in Small Animal Practice (GPcertSAP). When not at work he enjoys mountain biking, skiing and tramping, is a keen fisherman and also plays the bagpipes!


Dr Susanne Anderson.

BVSc(Hons), CVA.

Susanne graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Melbourne in 1983.  Since graduation her career has taken her all over the world including Africa, the United States and finally almost full circle back to the Southern Hemisphere She immigrated here with her husband, two children and two Jack Russell terriers in October of 2007.  Before arriving in New Zealand, Susanne worked for 13 years in a large small animal practice in Madison, Wisconsin. Her main areas of interest include internal medicine, geriatric care, rehabilitation, neurology, ophthalmology, endocrinology and alternative therapies including acupuncture.

Susanne does regular locum work at Vetcall enabling Claire and Colin to spend time together with their family.

Ann Wood

Dr Ann Wood.


Ann qualified from Glasgow university veterinary school.  After a few years in mixed practice in James Herriot country in northern England she combined her love of travel and animals with a trip to Australia.  Three years in Broome and the West Kimberly was followed by a jump across the ditch to Gisborne to work in a lovely mixed animal practice with a preponderence of New Zealand working sheep dogs. Ann left full time work to pursue a life long interest in Antarctica. A Graduate Certificate in Antarctic studies was awarded at Canterbury university after a wonderful 4 months of study culminating in a trip to the ice in 2003.  For the last 11 years Ann has been working as a locum vet with short term positions in various towns of New Zealand,  United Kingdom and Australia.  She loves coming to Christchurch and enjoys working with the friendly team at Vetcall. 

In her spare time she enjoys cycle touring, travel and photography. 


Kash Patel. 

Nat Cert VN.

Kash is a qualified veterinary nurse who joined the Vetcall team in December 2011 after leaving a long-established career in IT to pursue her dream of working with animals. As well as owning no less than five Bernese Mountain Dogs (not to mention four cats) Kash and her partner also breed them, yet she somehow still manages to find time to travel and indulge in her love for photography.


Lucy Van't Wout.

Originally a cook Lucy left the industry to pursue a career with animals, qualifying in Veterinary Nursing in 2015. Lucy is passionate about animal welfare, and does a large amount of volunteer work for Cat Rescue Christchurch.  She has three dogs - Ebony, Jade and Sumo,  two cats - Ivy and Ollie, and a couple of Indian Ringneck Parakeets. Lucy's experience with her own and fostered furred friends, combined with a special interest in canine behaviour makes her perfectly suited to her role as Puppy Pre-school trainer.



Tessa Drew.

Nat Cert VN.

Tessa did work experience with us while completing her studies and is Vetcall's newest team member having graduated as a veterinary nurse in 2016. She enjoys training her two dogs - Panda and Maximus and taking them on forrest adventures and beach walks. Tessa is passionate about animal welfare, fostering dogs and rabbits regularly.
